Well, I'm definitely the black sheep in my immediate family.

In the extended family I'd say one of my cousins is (maternal uncle's son).

Me.

Black sheep is a bit heavy; but when I was younger, I was a bit of a family tearaway, having embraced such 'bad boy' phenomena as expulsions, the 'party lifestyle', experimentation of various kinds, outlandish clothing and hairstyles, addiction and so on. But for over twenty years now, that's not been the case, far from it, I've embraced sobriety and increasing social normality, and am far from any kind of black sheep now. That said, I still exist with the effects of my previous existence; I've never truly recovered is the truth: I'm no life and soul of the party. Other than me, there are none I can think of, although I can't account for branches of my family I'm not so familiar with.

It doesn't seem to fit my family. I'm not even that clear on what black sheep may mean. By most definitions I could find, none of us fit very well (e.g. all got college degrees, had decent jobs, relationships, etc.). Also, it doesn't seem common to think of a parent as a black sheep as many of the definitions seemed to tie the concept to being a disappointment to one's parents.

The real black sheep of the family that have been alive during my lifetime would have to be my uncle. An alcoholic with convictions for assault, drink driving and driving while banned. The last one got him some time in prison. Estranged from his children. We'd had to call the police to remove him after he threatened my grandmother. Then he went really odd before dying suddenly in his late 50s.

We always joked about my little brother being the black sheep, but he doesn't come close to my uncle's level.

I've always heard 'black sheep' used as a term to describe someone who doesn't fit in with the rest of the family. So if one person was a highly educated individual with a healthy relationship, who came from a family of high school dropouts with multiple divorces and/or domestic abuse problems, (s)he'd be the black sheep (which would probably be a good thing in his/her case!)

that makes sense, though other sources seemed to associate black sheep with being bad

Yeah, I was thinking the whole time "why didn't this get corrected in qual as thats the kind of thing that would get caught right away". I was just too lazy to go look at qual and see if that was the actual case.
