There is a small weirdness with changing the avatar that you might already be aware of. In Customize, if I change my avatar and click submit in that section, it takes me to a screen that says

Important Messages

Your password has been set.

Maybe you are already aware, but I thought I'd mention it. Oh, and then it makes me click a button to sign back in. I'm guessing all instances of the submit button on that page are set to have that same outcome?

The avatar changed fine.

I have noticed this too. I don't like it. I assume I tried to fix it a long time ago, but didn't completely succeed. I think it only happens in certain cases. I will try again.

Sorry for being so slow to look into this. I just tried uploading an avatar myself and it didn't happen for me.

I suspect it may only happen in certain cases, perhaps when something else happens on top of the avatar change? Do you recall if you were doing something else or took an unusual path to that page?

I have some inkling to what's going on. The Customize page has a New Password field. It's generally left blank and that means it gets ignored. But, if it's filled in, it will take that to mean that you want to change your password. So, maybe you filled that in with your current password? Or, maybe there are cases where it gets filled in automatically (don't think so...).

If it updates the password, then it goes through the Important Messages thing and makes you sign on again. It has to do that to make sure the cookies get fixed and all that.

I might be able to get the site to realize it's the same password as you had before. It doesn't know your password, but I think it could treat it the same way it does a sign-on and just check if works. Then, it could skip the Important Messages thing. But, if you did enter your password, then you could also just not do that.

Or, maybe it's something else, like a different browser may behave differently... I'll try some others.

Oh, Netscape just did it... OK, I will look into that more.

I put in a fix for FireFox. I guess this is a known issue/feature of FireFox (e.g. http://stackoverflow... ).
I take it that FireFox has sided with its uses who want it to aggressively do passwords for them. Thus, it ignores my use of autocomplete=off (which works with other browsers).
I put in the hidden password field above to trick FireFox and it seems to work.

Well, I'm not sure it will fix your issue since maybe you don't even use FireFox...

I use Firefox. I get crap for it around here (SO and kid use Chrome), but I like the way Bookmarks are stored (like IE lol).

I should have mentioned I use Firefox. Sorry about that.

Thanks!!! It works now.

Firefox is currently cooler than Chrome in certain tech circles. Chrome lost some cred when they cracked down on extensions.

I used to be a Firefox guy for YEARS, but about 6 months ago I couldn't stop it from crashing and freezing, so I moved to Chrome.

It seems to be getting worse. Used to be it only crashed if it was up and running for 1 week straight. Now if it goes the day without crashing (or lately it has been freezing) I count myself lucky. It all seems to have started with the last firefox update they released. I will give them until the next update and see if they have fixed whatever it is they mucked up.

I had that issue a few years ago the last thing my firefox browser did was download chrome. On my current computer I haven't even looked at it. Although I do use Thunderbird for email

That is the last thing Firefox did for me as well. And like you, I still use and like Thunderbird.
